Jammers make prisons stronger

Mobile GPS jammers offer a revolutionary solution to changing the way mobile phones are used. To address the issue of vulnerable prisoners smuggling mobile phones and communicating with staff, two cell phone jammers have been installed in the Central Jail of the Correctional Institution. These jammers have a range of 50m to 60m, covering a designated area and preventing mobile phones from making or receiving calls. This measure has effectively stopped criminals from staying in touch with their associates and engaging in illegal activities outside the prison walls.

The technical team will also visit the Central Jail in Cuddalore and Coimbatore next week to install jammers as these facilities house notorious criminals, fundamentalists, LEE and Naxl prisoners. The department is moving quickly to install WiFi jammers in these jails. Jail superintendent G Shanmugha Sundaram said they conducted a trial run of the jammer on Monday and will continue testing it over the next two days. The jammer will be fully operational by Wednesday, facilitating smoother operations and reducing unnecessary issues within the jail.

GSM jammers primarily interfere with the downlink of cell phone receivers and create a strong carrier band to prevent the phone from connecting to the data channel. This feature eliminates the need for an external antenna, minimizing potential interference with neighboring elements. When implementing a jamming device, it is important to have specific regulations in place to restrict or prohibit the possession and operation of portable jammers within the facility. Additionally, using leaky coaxial cables instead of distributed antenna systems can further control potential interference.
