The issue of cheating using smartphones has raised concerns about the necessity of signal jammers. I tried to address this issue to the relevant authorities via email, but it proved very challenging. Cheating incidents seem to coincide with the start of exams, and with the rapid development of electronic communications, the means used by cheaters have become more diverse. To deal with this, measures such as banning the use of mobile phones, metal detector checks, and monitoring of people entering restrooms have been taken. Among these measures, one particular product has attracted attention: mobile phone radio control devices, which block mobile phone signals by emitting specialized shielding radio waves.
These devices are used not only in college entrance examinations, but also in qualification exams, high school entrance exams, and national exams, where incidents of cheating using mobile phones have been discovered one after another. Installing a cell phone signal jammer to temporarily put the examination room “out of service” is considered the most effective measure. Installing these devices requires a radio station license. By emitting weak radio waves of the same frequency as the mobile base station notification information, communication is interrupted, making subsequent location registration and polling impossible, causing the mobile terminal to display “out of service area” and suppressing communication.
We also plan to introduce this device in banking environments to restrict the use of mobile phones in ATM corners. This initiative is a collaborative effort between financial institutions to prevent crimes such as telecommunications fraud. Multiple financial institutions will jointly install the device at ATM corners as a measure to prevent fraudulent transfers.
The demand for mobile phone use within hospitals is increasing, but it is crucial to ensure an environment that prioritizes safety and security. The lifting of the ban on mobile phones within hospitals has brought challenges. As an experimental station approved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the GPS jammer will be experimentally operated in an actual hospital environment. This deterrent device is designed to make mobile phones “out of service” only in a specific area, protecting medical equipment from malfunctions caused by electromagnetic waves emitted by mobile phones.
